Charity Films

My work had always involved broadcast television, but in 2007 I was approached by a charity to make a film about a little boy called Tom.   Aged three, Tom had a rare, muscle-weakening condition called myotubular myopathy.  I turned to Tom's then six-year-old sister Sophie to help narrate his story and the film became a mini-documentary: a simple but powerfully effective way of gently portraying Tom and his family as well as explaining the condition.  Bringing all the expertise from the world of documentary,  in particular the skills of film editor Sean Mackenzie, I continue to be contacted by other charities.   Making these films brings Sean and I enormous satisfaction - and with each little film, I can remember Tom, who sadly died shortly before his fourth birthday.
